These examples will give you a pretty good idea of our range.
- Saturday, April 12, 2008, 8 p.m.: Waging Peace in Times of War, a multimedia event with film, music, and poetry; Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church in Knoxville, Tenn. The program includes two multimedia works, readings, and the world premiere of Jim Carlson’s “A Sound as Yet Unheard” for soprano and piano. HVQ will sing the Agnus Dei from Britten’s War Requiem and join the TVUUC choir in a selection from Donald McCullough’s “Holocaust Cantata.” Sponsored by TVUUC’s Performing Arts and Lecture Series. Tickets: $15 and $10.
- Sunday, March 16, 2008, 2 p.m.: The Way of the Cross, a Palm Sunday concert featuring works by Victoria, Morley, Tallis, Anerio, and Buxtehude. The second half of the program includes selections from Liszt’s “Via Crucis” and Schütz’s “Die Sieben Worte Jesu Christi” (“The Seven Words of Jesus Christ From the Cross”) in its entirety. The concert ends with “Tenebrae factae sunt” by Ingegneri. HVQ with guest organist Noel Jones. Holy Ghost Church, 1041 N. Central St., Knoxville, TN 37917.
- Saturday, March 1, 2008, 5 p.m.: HVQ sings for vigil Mass. Repertory for the liturgy includes Gregorian chant and polyphonic works by Lassus and Pittoni as well as Bain’s “Brother James’ Air.” St. Therese Church, 701 S. Charles G. Seivers Boulevard, Clinton, TN 37716.

- April 1, 2007: Palm Sunday concert at Immaculate Conception Church in Knoxville, Tenn. The program featured Schütz’s “Die Sieben Worte Jesu Christi” (“The Seven Words of Jesus Christ From the Cross”); Pergolesi’s “Stabat Mater”; “Vexilla Regis Prodeunt,” combining a sixth-century chant hymn on the Crucifixion and polyphonic sections by Victoria; and a Tallis setting of “Salvator Mundi.”
- Feb. 3, 2007: Echoes of Appalachia, part of the Music Among Friends series of the Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church, Knoxville, Tenn. The program featured the work of area composers, including our friend Jim Carlson, and an assortment of music, including two choral pieces featuring HVQ and a set of four Appalachian songs performed by Harmonia mezzo-soprano Mary C. Weaver.
- Nov. 5, 2006: Music for Remembrance: A Concert in Memory of Those Who Have Gone Before, Immaculate Conception Church, Knoxville, Tenn.
